From Lindsay Kramer over on blog.syracuse.com:
Crunch forward Zenon Konopka will start the season a little later than expected.
Konopka recently needed a second surgery on his hand to correct an injury he suffered at the end of last season. He had one surgery early in the summer, but the condition apparently became aggravated.
He is expected to miss up to four weeks, putting him slightly behind when the season starts on Oct. 6.
He also has this to say about Jeff Szwez (whom we'll see a little of at Jackets camp starting Friday and is pictured right):
Forward Jeff Szwez was at the Crunch's jersey unveiling on Monday. He looked great. He said he weighs about 230 pounds, up from 220 at the end of last season.
I asked him about the prospect of taking over more of the heavyweight fighting responsibility this season.
"I welcome all comers. That's part of the job,'' he said. "It's not just talk. It's not just playing.''
