Chimera with the Gordie Howe hat trick as Jackets win first in preseason

Jason Chimera (pictured right) scored a goal, two asissts and got in two fights as the Jackets battle back from a two goal deficit to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3.

Manny Malhotra also collected two goals, one shorthanded, while Derick Brassard, Jakub Voracek and Pascal Leclaire picked up an assist each. Curtis Glencross also collected his first goal of the preseason.

It was the Jackets first win of the preseaon in another penalty filled affair. They out shot the Blackhawks 32-28.

Unfortunately for the Jackets the game did not go without a price as Dan Fritsche left the game early with what was reported as a hip flexor. Jarod Boll, who is making quite the impression this preseaon, also was helped off the ice after sustaining a hard hit.

There was no TV feed tonight so I listened to George Mathews and Bill Davidge call the game on the radio therefor it will be difficult to say who "lit it up" tonight outside of the obvious contributors on the score sheet. It sounded like Jason Chimera played about as complete a game as anyone can. He is really starting to come into his own.

Rustly Klesla led all defensemen in the ice time department with close to 26 minutes. Derick Brassard and Jarod Boll led the offense each collecting over 16:30 in playing time. Its obvious the coaching staff is taking a good long look at these two.

Pascal Leclaire seemed to play a pretty smart game although it did sounds like the 'hawks 3rd goal was a weak one. He responded with a huge save later that turned into a Jackets goal off the subsequent rush.

Next game for the Jackets is Friday at Buffalo against the Sabres.
