First off - check out this much better shot of Nasher on the cover of NHL 2K9:
Now for you gamers take a look at which console its for -- that's right, NHL 2K9 is coming to Nintendo Wii.
I grabbed this courtesy of KuklasKorner:
2K Sports [...] today announced that the next iteration of the popular hockey franchise, NHL 2K9, will be coming to the Wii™ console from Nintendo this fall. As the first and only officially licensed NHL and NHLPA video game for Wii, NHL 2K9 will offer fans the fun opportunity to play like the pros using the Wii Remote™ controller as a hockey stick, and enjoy playing hockey in a wholly unique and entertaining experience like never before.
“Nintendo is thrilled to have 2K Sports’ NHL 2K9 on the Wii platform this season,” said Steve Singer, VP of Licensing at Nintendo of America Inc. “This title has been highly anticipated by our Wii consumers who will now be able to use the Wii Remote to face-off, play hockey, and fire a slap shot in their living rooms.”
Right about now I'm glad I have a Wii and even more great exposure for our boy Nasher and the Jackets franchise.
This is a definite purchase.
Update: Unfortunately I missed this little nugget on Kuklas regarding the the stick "*photoshop mockup of the stick was done by some other hopeful NHL Wii fan. Unfortunately the game will just be used with a standard remote, though."
Boo!! We want the stick!!

GEEZ get me all excited about THE STICK ...and then bum me out.
Oh well, Probably would have just whacked the Plasma TV with it anyhow.
Still, a cool idea. Maybe I can ducttape the remote onto my stick?
LOL that's hilarious... the first thing I thought when I saw that stick was "Nintendo is going to have SO MANY LAWSUITS on their hands, are they crazy?!"
Yeah man, that cover shot of Nash is waaaaaaaaay better than the poster taken from that interview. I was so disappointed by the first one. This one is ten times better. Too bad they couldn't have a shot of him recreating "The Goal". :D
I'm so pumped that an NHL game is coming to the Wii! I was hoping to hear news soon about if the 2K series would be the first to make the move. What a great day for hockey fans, Wii fans and BlueJackets fans.
