Is the Heatley Saga finally coming to an end ?? (we hope)

Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun is reporting Heatley could be a shark within the next 48:

Another 48 hours

A league source said Tuesday in Toronto that Dany Heatley will be traded to the San Jose Sharks "in the next two days".
stay tuned.

I know all of us are sick of the Dany Heatley spectacle by now but this could be the break Howsen is waiting for.. currently the sharks are pretty close to the cap with 17 players signed (NHL requirements state a roster minimum of 20 players, 23 max).. The Senators themselves have cap issues and will likely only take back a percentage of Heatley's cap hit... In this scenario the sharks will most like ship 2 or 3 players to Ottowa and only get back one player (Heatley).. therefore they will be once again at the cap but this time with only 16 players signed.. This will most likely mean that the Sharks will be looking to unload some of their unfavorable salary in return for players who are capable and have a low cap hit.. think players such as Klesla, Chimera, Dorsett, Boll, Methot, etc... combined with either prospects or picks..
If the Ottowa sun is correct, look for movement over the next few days and plenty of GM's (including our SH), to potentially extend the helping hand.. San Jose is in trouble and something has to give.... I think I can smell blood in the water.

Flyers interested in Bertuzzi

TheFourthPeriod.com

The Philadelphia Flyers are believed to be among the teams interested in signing veteran forward Todd Bertuzzi.

Bertuzzi, who is not likely to re-sign with the Calgary Flames, is expecting to find a new home this week.

The 34-year-old winger told the Calgary Herald he'll likely sign with a U.S.-based team, and the Flyers are one of the clubs that have shown interest.

In 66 games with the Flames last season, Bertuzzi tallied 15 goals and 29 assists for 44 points.

Flyers GM Paul Holmgren has been looking to add another forward, presumably for the team's second-line.

Should the Flyers add Bertuzzi, or any other forward, they may have to pull the trigger on a trade to shed additional salary.

Bertuzzi made $1.95 million last season and should see his salary inch closer to the $1.2 million range.

Another opportunity might be coming Howsen's way... In Howsen we trust.

I'd love me a Braydon Coburn (too bad he's a left hand shot). He only makes 1.4 million so I can't see him being the cap casualty I'd hope for.

Instead guys like Carle and Jones will be offered up but the question is will there be any interest? I can't see Howson biting on Carle's contract and Jones doesn't fit the profile - especially at 3 mil.

Philly will have to move someone as according to capgeek.com they only $300,000 to play with.

Perhaps their plan is to bury someone in the minors.

Totally with you though eplagge -- there will be fallout from these moves and hopefully Howson is there to pounce on the fallout.

I think Howsen is lurking in the dark, waiting to strike.. I would be highly surprised if he doesn't make a move before training camp... it just appears there are too many opportunities...plus we have inventory, picks and cap space... but it is possible that the opportunities that arise are not for the player we want.. I think we all know Howsen will make the right move.. personally I am not quite sure if we will be able to move some of our extra wingers, we desperately need to and with the cap space shortage we might not be able to...

In Howsen we trust..

I think San Jose is going to be in some deep trouble. Let's hope budget teams like the Jackets get some good players! Maybe the Chimera for Erhoff won't be so bad after all

Unfortunately it appears that Ehrhoff is a key part of the Heatley deal... so chances are we aren't going to be able to acquire him.

The San Jose players who have been mentioned a lot in the Heatley deal and the rumor mill are: Cheechoo, Ehrhoff and Clowe...
