Stat of the day

**WARNING** **WARNING**

If you don't want doom and gloom please avoid this stat.

**WARNING** **WARNING**

I just read this over off the Dispatch blog from a poster named Paul and immediately thought "oh sh**":

Only 4 Western Conference teams that were out of the playoffs on Dec. 8th have battled back to make the playoffs since the lockout. Of those teams, the Sharks made up the most ground... 5 points, coming from 12th place.

Ok, so about 1 a year.

We've created a hole. Doesn't mean we can't dig our way out.

Have to be better then the last 3 games though.

LTL: I hope there are some pissed vets, the last few days. My fear, though, is that they're really not. Boy, do we miss Shelly, or what? (A year ago, I never thought I'd say that, but, at least HE cared).

Is it me, or would anyone like to see some anger or emotion from the captain? I know he's a soft spoken guy, but, SOMEONE has to step up and show they care.

How many team/player meetings, every time they lay an egg (more on intensity than outcome) do they have to have before it's evident that changes (in the locker room) have to be made. Tell me one heavy player on this team, PLUU-EASE!!!

LTL/Fellow LTL readers,

Just did some excel math magic... we are currently 5 points out of the playoffs..
We have roughly 60 games left.. it's a little less I know..
According to my calculations (including some last year data and all the previous 10 game sessions in this season)...

5-4-1 is what you need to play every 10 games to stay stagnant.. or remain in your spot...
We could make up 5 points if we play 6-4-0 for 5 weeks... that would give us 1 point each 10 game session..

So in short we would have to play 6-4-0 OR BETTER to have a shot... consistently for the next 50 (5x10) games..

I hate to be such a downer, but I think our chances are slim...

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Eplagge those are certainly some sombering numbers. I like to be as optimistic as possible but I also like to be realistic.

We'll leave the cheerleading up to the guys who get paid by the Jackets.

The bottom line is that the stats don't lie. The Jackets aren't by any means out of the race yet but as you say, their chances are getting slimmer and slimmer by the day. There are only so many teams that can catch lighting in a bottle and pull a "Washington" and come from dead last to make the playoffs like they did last year -- and they needed a coaching change to get there.

Of course I'm a die hard and will follow this team no matter what but I'd be lying if I said my expectations for this season haven't been drastically reduced. I'm not even thinkin playoffs right now -- how can you when you can't even convert 10% of your PP chances and your kill is ranked 23rd?

At this point I just want to see some wins strung together so I don't have to think draft picks quite yet.

It would be real nice to pound Nashville to a pulp on the scoreboard tomorrow night as well.. that always make me feel good no matter our record..!!

Hey there,

Just saw a repost of my comment on there. I really hate that it is such a downer comment. I hope they turn it around, just I keep losing hope every year.

The Jackets are the thing I miss the most since moving from Columbus and I grab Center Ice every year so that I can follow them. Nice blog! I'll be sure to start following it.

Always need to be careful with numbers.

Here are a couple of interesting ones for you to mull:

--At present pace, 89 points will make the playoffs in the West.
--If the CBJ were just shooting the same percentage as our opposition, we would have 94 goals, 18 more than we do. What is our record then?

Shooting practice anyone??

More details on my blog, but wanted to point this out.

Hey JAL,

For some reason your link on your sig errors out. I would suggest posting a direct link to your blog after your comments so folks can check it out. Good stuff.

Of course to those interested his blgo is always linked under the CBJ Blogs element on the right hand side of the page.
