I've hammered on about how ridiculous this "upper body" "lower body" mumbo jumbo has really become in pro sports. Well finally there is a franchise who is doing something about it.
I would like to applaud the Montreal Canadiens for the following:
Growing weary of widespread rumours and gossip surrounding injured players, Canadiens coach Guy Carbonneau on Wednesday said anyone sidelined indefinitely will now have the nature of their injuries released to the media.
No longer will the team report such players have upper- or lower-body injuries.
Carbonneau said the decision was reached following a meeting between himself, general manager Bob Gainey, vice-president (hockey operations) Julien BriseBois and the team's communications department.
To that extent, injured winger Georges Laraque has revealed he's suffering from a back, not groin, injury as has widely been reported. The veteran, signed as a free-agent this season, has played in only 17 of Montreal's 42 games this season – none since Dec. 21, against Carolina. Laraque has two assists.
He has skated three times on his own this week, and believes he'll be able to resume practising with the team in another week.
Meanwhile, captain Saku Koivu, who practised with the Canadiens on Monday, has suffered a setback in his recovery from a high ankle sprain. He wasn't on the ice yesterday, and isn't expected to return until this weekend.
Thank you for taking the lead on this Montreal. We can only hope franchises (especially and selfishly the Jackets!) follow suit and put an end to this nonsense.

I will be interested to see if there are any repercussions from the league, given that this was done as an agreed policy, though I don't know how binding decision was.
Also, Candadian teams may have more flexibility, as they do not have HIPPA to contend with.
Just a thought, but I agree with the premise.

A Shot From The Point
I agree, this is stupid. That said, Max Radke, center for the CAHL Fireballs is currently day-to-day with an upper body injury sustained during last Sunday's victory against Byrne's Pub. Sources close to the team say it's not a head injury as previously reported; he was dropped on his head many years ago, which explains some of his comments to this blog. More details in tomorrow's edition LOL
I never thought I would be rooting for Detroit at this point, but nice 3rd period come back on the Ducks last night. That means that both Vancouver and Anaheim 3 points ahead of the Jackets and the Jackets have 2 games in hand. If this win streak keeps rolling, it could be 5th place in the west by the end of the weekend. (Pheonix is 1 point ahead of the Jackets but also has a game in hand). It is finally nice to be on the right side of the bar and be talking about games in hand. Wouldn't it be great to hit the All-Star break solidly above that damn bar that the organization has been chasing for so long?
